A Patch of Heaven is a series of therapeutic visual materials exploring grief and healing through gentle storytelling, spanning storybook, activity book, and interactive website.
In partnership with a therapy organisation, I planned, illustrated, and coloured 50-page illustrations bringing Timmy's grief journey to life as a gentle guide for children and the adults supporting them. The project expanded into a full suite: two age-adapted activity workbooks, an instructor manual, and an interactive website where families can purchase the digital storybook, read with page-turning animation, and complete worksheets digitally.
The story follows Timmy on a journey to find his mama in heaven. Along the way, he encounters Moon and a group of new friends. He found Moon's company a warmth that feels strangely familiar.
A small hidden detail runs through every page: Moon appears somewhere in each spread, quietly watching over Timmy. A gentle reminder that mama is always there.
The current Timmy character design was validated through a mini-survey of 10 respondents. His moon-shaped face and blue shirt consistently read as shy, timid, and vulnerable, which are traits that align closely with his character arc. Kimi was designed as a female counterpart to Timmy, sharing the same visual design language to create cohesion across both characters for young readers.

The website allows international families to purchase the book online, preview the storybook, and engage with interactive activities, including digital doodling and writing encouraging words. The experience was designed with children in mind, guiding young users gently through each interaction. Every word was carefully chosen to comfort, encourage, and create a safe space for children to process grief and loss.
