Echo reimagines sound as a moving sculpture for Bang & Olufsen, a luxury audio brand whose flagship speakers command upward of $40,000.
A series of kinetic panels shift gracefully with the rhythm, transforming any space into a dynamic, living soundscape. The concept pushes beyond traditional audio design toward artistic expression and ambient interaction, offering a new way to experience sound, where it is not just heard, but seen, felt, and lived with.
Each panel's precise movement creates mesmerizing wave patterns that visualize sound, revealing the emotional texture of music through coordinated motion. Bass notes might trigger ripples from the center, while higher frequencies create diagonal cascades across the surface. This thoughtful mapping between audio and movement makes music visible in a way that's both intuitive and surprising.
Don't miss the showcase video below to see Echo in action and brings a new listening experience!

Building upon the mechanical innovation of B&O's Beosound Shape, Echo elevates its engineering excellence into responsive art. Its panel movements correspond directly to the music's structure such as amplitude, beat patterns, and subtle randomness to create more dynamic movement.

Users can also enjoy the full control to personalise Echo's movements through preset patterns, intensity adjustments, listening modes, and multi-room configuration options. For example, Echo Twin where you have a pair of speakers, you could play with the complementary movement such as Wave Continuation, Call and Response, Symmetrical Pairing, etc.

This project journey pushed us beyond our comfort zones, challenging us to bridge the gap between design aesthetics and technical implementation. From mastering 3D animation without prior experience to wrestling with servo motor programming, each obstacle became an opportunity to expand our skillset.
